UPDATED: Fire crews battle fire near Martin Luther King bridge

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond fire crews responded to 17th and Brown streets under the Martin Luther King bridge in Shockoe Bottom to battle a vacant structure fire.

Around 1:30 p.m., fire crews were dispatched because of a plume of smoke seen coming from the area.

Crews found a vacant structure involved.  It was on CSX property near the train tracks.  The building reportedly hadn't been used in 20 years.

There was logistical problems with getting equipment to the area.  Fire contained to the structure. The cause is under investigation.

NBC12 has a crew on the scene and we will provide updates as they become available.
