MECHANICSVILLE (WWBT) - Big bargains, in a tough economy, brings out a lot of people bright and early Thursday monring to the Clotheslines Children Consignment Sale in Mechanicsville. It all comes just in time for the back to school rush.

The racks are stocked, the toys are out and the prices are low. That is just what Dana Hughes needs, as she is shopping for her two children.

"It's really nice prices and they have some really nice stuff, so it is definitely helpful," said Dana.

It comes at a perfect time for her and others out shopping for a bargain; it's back to school time. All this in an economy where every dollar counts.

"I have to cloth them," said Dana, talking about her children. "You have to do what you have to do in times like this, just to get by."

Carter Frantz is out early as well, one of a growning number of shoppers hitting these sales.

"I knew about it a couple of weeks ago and I marked it on my calendar and wanted to make sure I was out here by 9 o'clock," said Carter.

Not only are the people out at the sale pulling clothes off the racks and piling them in their arms, but they are also buying stuff that matches sets of clothes they have at home, at such cheap prices.

"It kind of lets you spend a little more money on those nicer items you want for special occasions," said Carter.

Seeing all of the people at the sale is a special occasion for Jessica Sears. Not only did she save big bucks shopping, she's also cashing in.

"It's huge for us. It's a way for me to go ahead and get rid of some stuff you don't need anymore, or are not interested in anymore. Then, go get some great new things. It's like Christmas in August," said Jessica.

When you hands are full, but you hear your savings, "Oh hundreds, easily," adds Dana, it makes getting by in a tough economy a little easier.

This sale runs through Sunday at the Hanover Village Shopping Center, which is located at 7019 Mechanicsville Turnpike, in Mechanicsville.

The hours are: Thurs and Friday 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.
