NBC12 Viewpoint: DTV transition & power increase

By Don Richards, NBC12 Regional Vice President and General Manager

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Since last week we have heard from many viewers who have called to share their success or frustration with our DTV transition.

As you probably know by now NBC12 has increased our power over 400%. For many people watching us with an antenna this power increase has solved your reception problems. But we know some of you are still trying. Here is what we have been telling folks who call.

First and foremost to receive us you must have a VHF/UHF antenna. For those of you within 20 miles of the city, the chances of success are greatly increased if it is an amplified antenna with rabbit ears like the ones shown in the video at right.

We have found that it works best if the rabbit ears are positioned flat and only extended about 14 inches. If you try a different antenna be sure to rescan your converter box as well.

We will continue to have Call 12 lines open for your calls each week so please watch 12 News for updates or go to NBC12.com for the latest tips and information. Again, we truly appreciate your continued patience.
