Family and police search for missing Chesterfield County teenager

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Chesterfield community is praying for the safe return of a 16 year old boy who went missing from a Virginia Beach RV resort.

Marcus Olson disappeared Friday night. Police say he suffers from a severe mental illness and needs his medication.

The teen's mother remains in Virginia Beach - his father returned to Chesterfield just in case Marcus tries to head home.

His brother says the photo in the missing persons flyer was taken two days before Marcus disappeared.

The flyer has been passed out by investigators to residents in Sandbridge where Marcus was last seen and to vacationers as far south as Corolla, North Carolina where tracking dogs picked up Marcus' scent.

"I sure hope they find him, " said Bonnie Sledge.

Marcus Olson lives in the Indian Springs community off Hopkins Road.

Neighbors describe him as a nice boy. They say because he needs his medication they have concerns for his safety.

"I don't see him like running away on his own but it's scary to say something bad happened to him," said Shannon Sledge.

Marcus' brother didn't want to go on camera, but says his brother is home-schooled and walking off on his own is unusual.

The 16 year old was vacationing with his family when police say relatives noticed him missing about 9:30 Friday night.

Police believe Marcus has stopped at some vacation homes in search of food and water.

By 2pm Monday, the tracking dogs were called off because of the heat.

"If he's out way out there in Virginia Beach he's not going to find his way home," said Shannon Sledge.

Marcus Olson was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, light blue basketball shorts and dirty white tennis shoes.

If you have information about where he might be, call Virginia Beach police.
