RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An early Wednesday morning crash claimed the lives of two people and backed up traffic for nearly five hours along the James River Bridge in downtown Richmond.
It happened around 12:45 a.m. this morning in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Maury Street.
Two young men died at the scene after being hit by a car. The victims have been identified as Antonio Montigue, 22, and Travis Sentell McCauley, 27, both of Richmond. McCauley's name was not released until Thursday due to notification of next of kin.
State police say four people were inside a car, which had a flat tire. They stopped in the left lane of the interstate and all of them got out.
The victims were near the back of the car, when another vehicle crashed into them and the car.
We are working to gather new details and expect to learn more throughout the morning and certainly throughout the day.
