RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - After a series of challenges, a richmond fair is now planned for this summer -- but it will be at The Diamond -- not at Richmond International Raceway Complex as first thought.
Changing the location wasn't a big issue -- but the length of the fair was.
You may have hear the ads that have been running recently promoting a ten day fair at The Diamond starting Friday -- but the Richmond Police department denied a permit for that length of time.
They will, however allow a shorter fair. What it boils down to is this -- police didn't have the personel necessary to staff this fair for two consecutive weekends -- hence the compromise.
The Richmond Fair is being put on by a company called Fair Nation Incorporated -- yesterday, the fair operator, Phillip Downing, met for several hours with Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood and hashed out an the compromise agreement.
Instead of opening this Friday, it will instead open this Sunday and run through the following Sunday, which is not exactly the deal Downing was hoping for.
"Quite naturally, you'd feel better if I had an outcome that included Friday & Saturday -- but obviously there's a problem with that...obviously, it is what it is," said Phillip Downing, Richmond Fair Operator.
This fair will now be eight days instead of 10. Everything will be set up here in the parking lots surrounding The Diamond on the Boulevard.
