RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - 21 critical violations in tonight's Restaurant Report. We begin in Chesterfield.

We headed out early to knock on the door of Shanghai (6701 Lake Harbour Drive) in Midlothian to inquire about 9 critical violations the restaurant received during a recent inspection.  They included  chicken found thawing at room temperature & eggs stored at room temperature for extended periods of time.

"What happened that day with the 9 criticals?" we asked.  An employee who answered the door told us we weren't invited inside, but said the problem inspection happened when the head chef was on vacation, and that as a follow-up inspection shows, everything has since been corrected.

He said, "That time the head chef was on vacation.  (Okay, so your head chef was on vacation? But now everything - you had april 29th 0 criticals so everything is good?) Yes."

Also on tonight's critical list, Zen Asian Bistro (11400 W. Huguenot Road) in Midlothian with 4 critical violations. An inspector reported that he observed no hand washing among employees during the entire 2.5 hour inspection, even despite the handling of potentially hazardous foods. A follow-up inspection cleared the restaurant of violations.

Becky's B & L, Inc. (100 East Cary Street) in Richmond also makes the list with 4 critical, including meats, vegetables, rice & gravy that weren't heated sufficiently. A follow-up inspection isn't yet available.

And finally, Side Pocket (2012 Staples Mill Road) in Henrico with 4 critical violations. Among them, potentially hazardous foods held too long. A follow-up report hasn't been posted.

Now for this week's Hall of Fame, our award goes to Wendy's (2200 East Laburnum Avenue) in Henrico for a perfect inspection in April!
