RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -  Police have just cleared the scene at the Ross-Smith apartment building on Kensington Avenue where a woman's body was discovered early this morning.

Police are still not releasing much information other than a woman was found dead in the parking lot in front of this apartment building.  But as they continue their investigation, several residents who knew the woman, are still processing what happened outside their own front door.

This resident says he first heard some commotion outside, but didn't give it much thought. It wasn't until he looked out the window in the hallway on his way out, did he see his neighbor laying face day on the pavement, right next to his car and police swarming the area.

Neighbor Dr. Scott Pinks says, "Its absolutely shocking to look out the window and see somebody, not a friend, but someone I knew from the building, laying in the parking lot for what I assumed dead."

Police received a call for a woman down just after 6 this morning, when they arrived at the side entrance of the aparments on Nansemond Avenue, they found her unresponsive. A full scale investigation followed, with both the homicide and the crash team working the scene.

Dr. Scott Pinks knew the woman as a neighbor in the building, says she was young, maybe in her early 20's.

Dr. Pinks says,  "You've heard it said before, you don't expect it to happen until you find it happen in your own backyard, an unfortunate incident with this young woman, whether she was attacked or some other dreadful accident we don't know at this time.'

Richmond Police hope to have more information later this afternoon. In the meantime they are asking anyone with any information to call the tips line at 514-TIPS.
