Motorcyclist hurt by falling tree limb on Monument Ave.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A portion of historic Monument Avenue in Richmond was closed today to allow work crews to remove a limb that had fallen from a tree.

Early this morning, a motorcyclist was struck after a tree branch came crashing down at Monument and Sauer avenues. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A public works spokesperson says they the city of Richmond maintains more than 150,000 trees, and this one was not on the hazardous list.

Monument Avenue's eastbound lanes were blocked for several hours for cleanup.
