RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Rescue crews had their hands full pulling four teenage boys from the rain-swollen James River today.
Police and fire were called out around noon after a report of four people stranded on a rock at the Pony Pasture Rapids section of the James River Park System in west Richmond.
With the help of a passing kayaker, they were able to rescue the four boys, including two who were swept downriver by the current.
None of the four was wearing a life jacket, a requirement when the river level exceeds five feet.
The river was well above that level today, at nearly seven and a half feet.
