HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Authorities received a call Sunday night at 6:58 p.m. that a fisherman fell from a small boat into a pond near Ashland.
Emergency personnel responded and began to search the pond. Shortly after 8 p.m., the victim was located and pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Malcolm Cotman, 46, of the 100 block of Koch Ave. in eastern Henrico County.
The Hanover County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death as an apparent accidental drowning. The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.
Officials said Cotman was not wearing a floatation device.
The pond is located on the property of Aggregate Associates at 9594 Old Ridge Road near Ashland.
