Study claims majority of child drownings occur in backyard pools

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - If you're heading to the pool this holiday weekend with the kids, a word of warning.

A new study found that nearly 80-percent of drownings between 2004 and 2006 happened in backyard pools.

The report focusing on incidents involving children under age five.

During that period there were on average about 300 pool and spa-related deaths of children each year.
