Children and parents injured after tour bus accident

FAIRFAX, VA (NBC12) - The holiday weekend has already started on a rough note in northern Virginia.

More than three dozen people, including children, were hurt on Interstate 66 in Fairfax after two tour buses collided.

The buses were filled with elementary school children, their teachers and parents.

They were headed back to Harrisonburg from a field trip to Washington, D.C.

Traffic was backed up for hours.

We're told none of the injuries were life threatening
