Route 10 reopens after powder scare

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Iron Bridge Road was closed between Lori Road and Krause Road for several hours while authorities investigated a substance brought into the police department.

Officials believe the substance is antique formulation for flash powder which is used in antique photography.

Around 10 a.m., a citizen brought the powder into the police department because they did not know how to discard of it properly.

A section of the police department was evacuated as a precaution.

Virginia State Police and the FBI were on scene to analyze the substance and dispose of it.
