HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Mac Leighton turned himself in Tuesday morning. The five felony charges include three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. And two counts of soliciting child pornography.

Police say the Tucker coach and teacher would ask a 17 year old female student to send him photos.

"It was involving a cell phone. And the common phrase for it now is 'sexting' where you ask someone to send a picture of yourself across a cell phone," said Henrico Police Lt. Doug Perry.

Police began their investigation in March. It's not clear when school leaders became aware. But as of last week, Leighton was no longer coming to work, at Tucker High School.

"We want the Tucker community to know that this isn't a reflection on the school, this is an individual that has been accused of these allegations and we treat it as such," said Henrico Schools Spokesman Mychael Dickerson.

As a Henrico schools employee, Leighton would've had to pass a rigorous background check when he was hired, about a year ago. The relationship in question, then began in October.

"At this point it only involves one student. If anybody else was a victim, or feels like they've been a victim, we'd ask that they please contact the Henrico police," said Perry.

Other than that, neither the police nor the school would discuss the relationship, or, if any of the charges originated on school grounds.

"Life at Tucker will be safe and secure as it always is. And our staff's doing everything they can to ensure that," said Dickerson.

Leighton will spend the night in jail. His arraignment takes place Wednesday. There's a long way to go but if convicted on five felonies, Mac Leighton faces the possibility of decades in prison.
