RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Farmer's markets are one of the best places to buy fresh local produce.
Farmer's markets are a place where you can not only buy good food, but get feel the pulse of the city. You can talk with vendors about the season's crops, bargain hunt, and learn more about the city.
Here's how you can save at a farmer's market:
Know What's In Season: You'll know what to expect on your visit and make smarter purchases.
Plan Your Meals: For example, if you know kale is in season you can stock up on recipes including kale. This will also help you to not over spend.
Go Early or Go Late: Farmers often have their best freshest products earlier in the day. And you'll likely get a better deal on remaining items since farmers want to sell out of what's in stock.
The Richmond area has many farmer's markets that run throughout the spring and summer and into the fall. For more farmer's markets around the Commonwealth, please see the Virginia Grown website, linked at right.
