HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A recent winning Mega Millons ticket was sold at a store in Spotsylvania County -- and today the winner claimed his prize at Richmond International Raceway.

Joe Denette is from Spotsylvania County and is a die hard racing fan. He realized he had the winning numbers the morning of the NASCAR race on May 2.

But he gave the ticket to his mom for safe-keeping...and headed to the track. And that's where he arrived today to claim his big prize.

Joe Denette chose to take the cash option of $47.8 million, rather than the full jackpot amount over 26 years.

The jackpot was worth $75.6 million dollars -- the third largest payout in Virginia Lottery history.

To tell you a little bit about Denette, this big win could not have come at a better time. He's been unemployed since January when he was laid off from his job with a home-building company.
