River level rises, permit required to enter waters

From NBC12 News

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - You need to make new weekend plans if you were thinking about spending some time on the James River.

It's off limits unless you have a permit and even then, experts warn you better know what you're doing.

Anytime the river level is above nine feet you need a permit.

The rule goes for everyone from sports enthusiasts to the casual sun bathers.

Even if the water levels do drop below nine feet this weekend you still need to use common sense.

You'll also need a life jacket.

For updated water levels you can call the National Weather Service at 646-8228 and press option four.
