RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Residents in Richmond's Fan District are keeping an eye out for each other after a woman was sexually assaulted in an alley. It happened in the 200 block of North Meadow.
Most people we talked to had not heard about the attack and were grateful we let them know about it. Police say the woman was attacked by a stranger while walking home. Just after 2:00 Friday morning, a woman walking home is sexually assaulted in an alley.
"I'm shocked because usually this neighborhood is really, really quiet," said Richmond resident Tom Matney.
"It's kind of frightening yeah," said Ernest Wilson.
Michael Price comes to this section of the fan often. He's looking for a house.
"That's traumatic and I can't imagine what that's like. The experience," said Price.
Just over a month ago four blocks away from this latest incident a woman was sexually assaulted on Grove Avenue. Police say she has two attackers she did not know.
That case also happened in the early morning hours. It has not been solved. This latest attack has residents locking their doors and keeping a close eye on others.
"Be careful you got to be careful it's a city. There are people around not everybody is nice. Let's face it," said Wilson.
"It's something to try to keep your eyes out for your neighbors and other people but until things die down I wouldn't go out a lone," Matney said.
As for Price's plans to move in?
"I'm not going to allow that to deter me from this area," said Price. "Looking out for others is looking out for yourself."
Police are still investigating and following up leads Friday night. Anyone with any information is asked to give them a call at 780-1000.
