RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - This weekend you can join a nationwide effort to help those in need. The 17th Annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive kicks off tomorrow.
Donations are critical at this time every year because most school lunch programs are "suspended" during the summer months. But even more so now, as the recession is leaving more and more families in need of help.
So tomorrow mail carriers are depending on you, and are asking everyone to donate non-perishable canned, bagged and boxed goods.
A note though, they ask to please not leave frozen or fresh foods or anything in glass containers.
The postal service knows its possible, because last year mail carriers picked up and dropped off almost 100,000 pounds of food to the food bank here locally.
