SPORTS EXTRA: Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - The NASCAR stars were out Thursday night at Southside Speedway. Denny Hamlin along with Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano and Curtis Markham drove in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown.

Richmond International Raceway will be busy starting Friday night.

Sprint Cup qualifying is set for 5:40 and the green flag waves for the Lipton Tea 250 Nationwide Series Race at 7:30. The Cup race is set for Saturday night at 7:30. Tickets for both races are still available.

    Baseball success runs in Conner Menez's family. His grandfather, Bill Plummer, was a member of the 1970's Big Red Machine, backing up hall of famer Johnny Bench behind the plate. Menez will make his first home start for the Flying Squirrels on Friday, but burst onto the scene in his AA debut, tossing six shutout innings and picking up a win at Harrisburg this past Saturday.
