RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A preliminary report indicates the officers' actions were justified in the police involved shooting of a man with a knife on Broad Street. Now police are investigating the death of the suspect's fiance.

It was one year ago that 55 Nathan Randolph was released from prison after serving almost 30 years for second degree murder.

He's facing charges for attempted capital murder of a police officer, during this traffic stop Wednesday morning on Broad Street, when he allegedly approached officers with a big knife.

He was shot and seriously wounded in that encounter.

And now police are investigating the mysterious suffocation death of his fiance', Alnita Randolph-Coleman, who also happens to be his ex-wife. Police are calling it murder. She was found dead in the home they shared in Barton Heights.

At last report Randolph is listed in critical but stable condition at VCU Medical Center.
