COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (NBC12) - Chesterfield police are searching for leads in the armed robbery of a truck stop, in Colonial Heights.
It happened early Thursday morning.
Two heavily armed men made quick work of a robbery at the Pilot Travel Center in Colonial Heights.
Nearly 24 hours later, the two suspects are still on the loose.
All police have to go by is a grainy surveillance camera picture of the two suspects.
According to police, the two men grabbed an employee of the store and held her at gunpoint with a semi-automatic weapon.
They forced her into a back door, once inside they demanded another employee take them to a safe and give them cash.
Patrick Camm was on his way back to Spotsylvania from Marine Boot Camp when he and his family stopped at the store.
He believes some people will do anything for money.
"You hear a lot of bad stuff going on with the economy and how bad jobs are and people are desperate and they are going to do desperate things," he said.
In this case, desperation took them to a truck stop, a bit off the beaten path.
The travel center can't be seen from I-95, that's because it is tucked in behind several car dealerships which can be clearly seen from the highway.
But even though 95 can't be seen, it is still just short drive.
An easy getaway, for two crooks who are now no where to be found.
Chesterfield Police have very little to go on in this case, if you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers at 748-0660.
