GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) - A Chester man has been arrested and charged with robbing the Bank of Goochland Thursday afternoon.

The Goochland sheriff's office says Cecil Barker, 28, came into the bank around 1:45 p. m. He displayed what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun and ordered bank employees to lie on the floor. He then jumped the counter, rifled the cash drawers and left.

Deputies chased his vehicle down I-64, toward Charlottesville.

They stopped him using spike strips, but he took off on foot. State Police, Albemarle Police and Goochland Deputies set up a perimeter and the man was apprehended after State Police canine dogs tracked him down. The money taken in the robbery was recovered from the vehicle.

Barker will be formally charged when he's moved back to Goochland from Albermarle.
