RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Tens of thousands of people will descend upon downtown Richmond Saturday morning for the 10th Annual Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k run.
The day's events kick off at Broad and Harrison streets with the kid's run at 8 a.m., followed by the Ukrops Monument Avenue 10k run at 8:30 a.m.
With a record number of runners taking to the starting line Saturday morning, the streets are going to be packed. On this 10-year anniversary of the 10k run, organizers are expecting the best race yet.
"We've been very lucky," said Meghan Keogh, Sports Backers Event Manager. "We've been able to grow the race every year - grow it in a fashion that gives the best opportunity to all our runners and participants."
Huge crowds are expected to line Monument Avenue to cheer on the 35,000 participants all the way to the finish line.
Those huge crowds can mean traffic congestion
"Belvidere is always very busy,' Keogh said. "We are taking a lane of Belvidere so the participants have some extra space. Obviously Broad Street will be closed. Obviously Monument and Franklin as well."
Parking restrictions are also in place. Organizers suggest parking east of Belvidere or avoiding driving all together if possible.
Organizers are inviting all of the runners and the spectators to the post-race party in Monroe Park.
Those who haven't picked up their registration packets can still do so at the Arthur Ashe Center off of Boulevard until 9 p.m. Friday.
