RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Senate has passed a bill to allow officers to pull over and ticket teen drivers for talking on a cell phone.
The law currently allows police to ticket drivers under 18 who hold a provisional driver's license and are talking on a cell phone only if they are pulled over for another offense.
Democratic Sen. George Barker's bill passed out of the Senate on a 33-6 vote Monday.
Opponents argued that the bill could lead to innocent drivers being pulled over just because they look young.
