MIAMI (AP) - Tanner Roark won his fourth consecutive start and the Washington Nationals averted a series sweep by snapping the Miami Marlins' six-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory Wednesday. For the fourth start in a row, Roark allowed one run in seven innings, lowering his ERA to 2.74.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Kevin Gausman pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, Adam Jones homered and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 Wednesday night for their seventh win in nine games. Gausman retired the first 14 batters he faced. The rookie allowed three runs and three walks in his first career start against the Angels.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The read-option isn't a major part of the playbook under new Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden, and that's just fine with Robert Griffin III. Gruden says there will be "sprinkles" of the read-option this season and that he's focusing more on developing Griffin as a drop-back passer.

WASHINGTON (AP) - All-star goalkeeper Bill Hamid tied a career high with eight saves for his fifth shutout of the season in D.C. United's 3-0 victory over Toronto FC on Wednesday night. Eddie Johnson and Chris Rolfe scored to help the Washington club win its fourth straight game.
