RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Three people started off the new year one million dollars richer! One of Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle tickets was sold at a Henrico gas station.

The owners, employees and customers of Alan's Exxon on Quioccasin Road are very excited for the million dollar winner. Customers said they plan to visit the store more often thinking the luck will rub off on them for future drawings. Who's holding the golden ticket?

"I keep my fingers crossed I'm going to run home quickly and check the numbers," said William Dzansi, a regular customer.

Alan's Exxon near Regency Square was among three stores in Virginia that sold winning New Year's Raffle tickets worth a million bucks. The winner who spent 20 dollars on the ticket will take home $710,000 after taxes.

"Pretty amazing, I actually live pretty close down the street, and I come here pretty often. I wish Alan's sold me the ticket," said Malachi Francis, another regular customer.

Moses Chege took the call from the Virginia Lottery announcing the big news.

"I was very happy, very excited," said Chege who works at Alan's Exxon.

He's excited because his boss will receive a $10,000 check from the lottery.

"That's a great prize because the owners deserve it. They're hard working people. They put a lot of work in providing good service to the customers. I think ten thousand dollars is good money, good reward," said Chege.

But it may be some time before we find out who the million dollar winner is. They have 180 days to come forward.

"It's often a good idea for people who win prizes of this size to go ahead and talk to a financial professional a tax professional. There are going to be tax implications when you win a prize of this magnitude," said Virginia Lottery's John Hagerty.

Customers said they'll be back to try their luck.

"It's a nice way to make money even if you lose a little bit at a time," said Dzansi.

"I think it's a lucky store, so they better come in and buy their tickets here if you want the winning ticket - Alan's Exxon," said Chege.

Lottery officials say it's important the winner sign the back of their ticket. The other two million dollar winning tickets were sold in Yorktown and Burke, Virginia.

Six people won $25,000. Three of those winning tickets were sold in Petersburg, Fredericksburg, and Jarratt. Another three hundred people won $500 each. Go to www.valottery.com to view the entire list of winning numbers.
