CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Police say the woman posted items for sale on the internet. They got a hit from a man who expressed interest in buying some of their merchandise. The woman agreed to meet the man at the Walthall Self Storage facility on Jeff Davis Highway in Chesterfield county. It's where some of the items were being stored.
But when the women showed up Saturday night, they were confronted by three men. One suspect identified himself as a police officer and demanded the women get out of their vehicle. The suspects took off with the women's car and pocketbooks.
Eye-opening news for Adena Mahini. She listed a couch for sale on the internet and had potential buyers come to her home to check out the item.
"I was timid and a little nervous so I made sure I had someone in the house with me. I would not do it at night or by myself," said Mahini.
Police suggest meeting in a public place - preferably during the day and that's not all.
"Check out sources if you know people who know this seller or buyer - anyone that can give you some background about this individual" said Captain Kevin Smith.
Travel in groups and if something feels wrong - leave.
"Make sure everybody in family, your friends knows who you're meeting, what you're doing, and where you're going," said Kevin.
Luckily, the women involved in the crime here were not hurt. The women's vehicle was recovered a few hours later. If you have any information on this crime you're asked to contact police.
