RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Bill Clinton made a stop in Richmond today at the 17th Street Farmer's Market in Shockoe Bottom. The former president is in Virginia to rally support for democratic candidate for governor Terry McAuliffe.
McAuliffe was Clinton's advisor and chief fundraiser for both his 1992 and 1996 presidential victories...and filled that same role last year for Hillary Clinton.
There are only six weeks to go until the democratic primary for governor. McAuliffe has a challenge on his hands to win over party loyalists...and a former president is something neither state senator Creigh Deeds nor former delegate Brian Moran can muster.
While some have said McAuliffe represents old politics, McAuliffe himself says he is a candidate of change who will work with President Obama to create new energy & new jobs in Virginia.
Today, Clinton told the crowd why he believes Terry McAuliffe is the right man for the job.
The stop here in Richmond not the last of the day. Terry McAuliffe & Bill Clinton were next headed to Roanoke.
