FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - The Fairfax County School Board has approved more than $230 million for new construction and renovation projects.
Officials say some of the money will help pay for a new $50-million middle school in the southern part of the county. Enrollment is expected to grow in that area because of military base realignments.
Another $100 million will go toward renovations at George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church. Several elementary schools also will receive funding for expansions.
Kevin Sneed, the school system's director of design and construction, says now is a good time to bid on projects, because prices are down 20% from a year ago.
County residents will vote in November on whether to approve the school board's spending plan.
