Family remembers woman killed by tree

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The family of Monica Bolton said a prayer and left flowers by the site where she was killed Monday evening.

The 44-year old died when her Toyota Camry was struck by a falling tree, according to Henrico Police.

First responders arrived to the area of Wilkinson Road and Brookefield Road around 5:44 p.m. Monday evening to find the large tree on top of Bolton’s Camry.

Two other vehicles were also damaged.

"The different flowers represent her: happy, colorful, funny," said the victim's mother.

Crews worked to cut up and remove pieces of the tree on Tuesday morning, as the family stopped by the site.

Ernestine Quickbattle, the victim’s mother, said that Bolton was originally from Hampton, and very much focused on guiding the younger generations.

She says her daughter coached basketball and track teams, worked with mental health patients, and was an advocate for at-risk youth.

“They missed a wonderful person, those that did not know her," Quickbattle said.

She says that even through death, Bolton continues to inspire her family.

“Just love each other and be closer," Quickbattle said. “We’re holding on...we’re holding on.”

The family says they plan to hold funeral arrangements for Bolton in Hampton.
