Virginia lawmakers introduce bill to rename bridge after fallen Trooper Dowell

RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ7) - Virginia Senate introduced a bill on Thursday to honor Trooper Lucas B. Dowell by renaming a Smyth County bridge after the fallen trooper.

The bill, SB-1789, introduced by Senator Mark J. Peake (R) proposes that a bridge on I-81 in Smyth County over Whitetop Road be named the "Trooper Lucas B. Dowell Bridge."

Dowell died in a shootout after executing a search warrant Monday, Feb. 4.
