Driver charged after overturning log truck

NOTTOWAY COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - A truck driver is charged after overturning his logging truck and spilling the load.

Virginia State Police were called to Deep Creek Road, 1.5 miles north of Bible Road, just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

The log truck was heading south on Deep Creek Road. As the driver, Alfred J. Johnson, 60, of Dewitt, was exiting a curve, he ran off the road, struck a guardrail and a portion of the bridge before coming back onto the roadway and overturning it on the driver’s side. The logs he was carrying spilled onto the road.

Johnson was wearing his seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. However, he refused to be taken to the hospital.

The roadway has been closed for an extended period of time for cleanup.

Johnson is charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain control.

Police are investigating.
