RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In time for the final wave of holiday season traffic, the average cost of regular gas in Richmond drops below $2 per gallon.
People are leaving gas stations with a little more money than usual as gas prices continue to drop.
For drivers like Stephen Eide, who’s driving to Connecticut, the low prices come in handy.
“It makes things easier but we were going to come home and visit family for the holidays anyway,” said Eide.
While many driver might believe the low cost of gas will mean more drivers on the road, AAA says gas hasn’t impacted holiday travel for years.
“Gas fluctuations have become a part of life and we find that people enjoy them when they are lowers but they don’t stay home unless they get really high,” said Martha Meade, AAA.
In May, gas prices in Richmond were the highest of 2018 at $2.79 per gallon, AAA says that didn’t keep drivers off the road.
Even though the cost gas in Richmond averages $1.97 per gallon, AAA does not believe it will influence more drivers to get on the road.
AAA also believes the low gas prices will continue into the early months of 2019.
