First Alert Weather Day ends with heavy rain pushing 2018 to #2 in yearly precipitation

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Yet ANOTHER soaker of a storm brought moderate to heavy rain Friday.

By 5pm the official rainfall total in Richmond was 1.07″, bringing the yearly total to 63.47″ which now puts this year at the 2nd wettest on record for Richmond! The number one record wettest year was in 1889 with 72.02″.

For 2018 we are now over twenty inches above normal. WOW

Here is a map showing radar-estimated rainfall totals Friday. Generally central Virginia was soaked with an inch to inch and a half of rain, with upwards of 3 inches over western Piedmont Counties.

The James River at Richmond’s Westham Gage will be going above flood stage this weekend with minor flooding forecast by the National Weather Service Wakefield
