NEWPORT NEWS, VA (WWBT) - Your trip to Virginia Beach will be getting a little bit faster as the Virginia Department of Transportation is set to bump up the speed limit on a portion of I-64.
The Virginia Pilot reports that the speed limit will increase from 60 to 65 mph on a 9.5 mile stretch in parts of Newport News and Hampton Roads. The stretch will start at Jefferson Avenue and end just east of Hampton Roads Center Parkway.
New signs will be put up on the westbound side overnight Wednesday and eastbound signs will be finished Thursday night, according to the Virginia Pilot.
The new speed limit goes into effect as soon as the signs are up.
