RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Did you happen to see this in the evening sky Friday?
It’s called a sundog!
This atmospheric optical phenomenon looks like a bright spot of colors to the left and often times the right side of the sun.
Sundogs are also known as perhelion. A sundog is occasionally seen about 22° on either side of the Sun. Sunlight refracts through icy clouds and creates this detached looking rainbow!
